Jetsetting off to Romania.

This evening I head off to Romania via Scotland. The excitement of heading off on a new adventure, meeting new and old friends in new and exciting places, and braving the Transylvanian mountains and forests is going to be enough to keep me motivated through the flight and layovers.

Eurotrip Romania begins with four days in Bucharest with a new friend. Bucharest is Romania’s capital city taking in the modern architecture and hopefully old world charm.

Next comes one and a half days of travel, via train, to the of hamlet of Turnu Roșu. This town is the launching point for a 9 day, 100 km solo hiking expedition through the Făgăraș mountains. The tallest and second tallest mountains in the country will be summited (unless they are too tall), and bears, wolves, and stray dogs may have to be fought off.

At this point, assuming Romania has not taken me bones and all, I will be joined by an old friend for a ridge run of the Piatra Craiului range. Some lovely small town wanderings, and a stop in Dracula’s castle (the Disney Land one in Bran not the real one).

After a day or two exploring the surrounding areas it’s back to Bucharest to take a budget, but completely dependable, airline to Athens Greece.

This is the plan. But execution may vary.
